tick tock unique places to travel why,would anyone in the right place,love it it's one of the most popular,apps out today,with over 1 billion monthly active users,and if you don't know,tick tock is an app for sharing videos,that are up to one minute long,making it easy for anybody to become a,content creator the best part is their,unique algorithm,that doesn't require a following for you,to blow up unlike instagram i'm just,saying tick tock over and over you post,something and 80 000 people might say it,when you have four followers,they do this with a 4u page which is a,constant feed of videos,based on your individual interests and,the algorithm gets smarter and smarter,as you watch more tick tocks and today,i'm going to challenge myself to build,it,but before we do how does tick tock,actually work,well if we break it down it's actually,not too complicated we have the client,which is the app which needs to read and,write videos to the server,and a cdn like vastly for loading videos,from cache,avoiding requests to the server when,possible now this is obviously,simplified but at a high level this is,basically it,the second part of the problem is,presenting the videos to the user,you need to be efficiently pre-loading,the videos as the user scrolls,that way the experience is seamless,giving an impression of an,endless feed of videos but now that's,just half of the equation,the other part is the recommendation,engine that ticktock built,which has too many variables and would,take way too much time,to build out in this video but if that's,something you're building this,application goes a lot smoother,rather than doing this later i kind of,loaded up front just because it helps me,think about the ui once i have some data,so all i did i added a bunch of movie,files,to my project and i created,a model which is going to model a tick,tock video so one of the,single videos that you see on the feed,and it's pretty self-explanatory,then the last part of it i just wanted,to make sure that i could actually load,these videos so what i did to do that,was just write a test,so this is like where testing comes,really handy,um and i highly recommend as you're,developing your apps,uh to test certain aspects of your,business logic,um because here if we flip back to the,video you can see it's kind of complex,we just want to make sure it works now,i'm going to focus more on the ui,now that i have my data so check in with,y'all later,all right so i don't know if this is,gonna work but i remember seeing,that the tab view could possibly be used,for paging so,imagine this being the video feed and,now we can easily,just swipe through it again i'm not 100,positive,this is going to work oh let's try it,out with,an av player and see if we can get a,video to play,all right so i just added the video feed,that i made,and the video view and now i've added it,to the home screen,and it looks and works pretty well,so it's a little glitchy on the,simulator on device we don't really see,anything,so our little tab bar hack ended up,working,what i'm going to do is start building,up some of the icons so the profile the,share buttons the like button,and i'll catch you on the next update,all right so i've added our buttons here,i think it looks pretty good they're a,little,small but something we can fix really,quick,i'm not going to sweat it much right now,what i wanted to do now is add the,caption text,and i want to work on the tab bar,buttons make sure the icons,actually match the app,all right so now i've gone to the point,where i have,our engagement buttons for the profile,um liking sharing the soundtrack,also have the caption and i updated the,tab bar to kind of match the application,there's a little hack some little hacks,that you can apply,um to get the buttons to center which is,kind of cool,but overall i have a feed of videos now,that you can easily scroll through,they're dynamic as well you can see the,description updates as,i scroll or the caption we,can also make the likes and the shares,dynamic but,i don't feel like spending too much more,time on this the last thing i want to do,is see if i
