hey guys Pat Murphy - SMS and today in,this quick video I'm gonna be going over,how to force a customer to put in a,phone number on your Shopify checkout,because I've been getting a lot of,questions about will - SMS work if the,customer only leaves an email right and,the answer is no - uh Sam s is strictly,an SMS sequencing application so you,need to force the customer to put in a,phone number in order for - that's a,mess to send out messages like the order,of verification campaigns or order,notification templates we need to have,the phone number and this is so common,because when I was running my local,store here in the Philippines I came,across I committed the same mistake,basically I wasn't forcing the customer,to put in a phone number and the problem,is now you're VA s don't have a phone,number to call so what this what this,does is it increases your RTS which is,very bad right you'll have people,ordering and there's no way to contact,them so you're forced to send out the,order and when you do the customer is,not there or they don't have the money,and that package gets returned to you so,I'm going to show you in this quick,video how to force that phone number so,that way it works seamlessly with - and,this way your VA s have always a phone,number to contact if need be it's so,important to have that phone number so,let me start off by and it's going to be,funny because going to be extremely easy,extremely easy to do this so let me just,start by showing you what a typical,checkout looks like so this is what my,checkout looks like and over here it,says you'll notice it says email or,phone number so there might be times,where somebody puts in a email address,right ABC and this is just a test but,ABC @ gmail.com and they fill this,information out first name last name,complete address Barranca barangay City,Philippines postal code you'll notice on,mine though I,mobile number for SMS confirmation in,case we need to contact you about your,order right so how did I put that in,there because by default you probably,won't have that in there so the way you,insert this extra section is through the,Shopify settings so if you're on the,home page of your Shopify dashboard what,you're going to want to do is go down to,settings which is here in the bottom,left-hand corner of the screen,my left-hand corner then click on,checkout so click on settings and then,click on checkout and I did mention this,was gonna be easy guys check this out,you go down to form options and it says,here shipping address phone number,hidden optional required so I think I,think by default is hidden or optional,it's one of the two I think it's hidden,I would set it to required always,required all right see see what happens,when you put it to hit in I think,hiddens default if I'm not mistaken all,right so now we're gonna go back here,and I'm gonna refresh my checkout page,and you'll see that it's gone this is,what your typical checkout looks like,right no more no more phone number but,the minute I go back here into the,backend again and I put required and I,save this now we have a mobile phone,number right so if the customer fills in,their information and they continue to,shipping and then they get buyer's,remorse and they abandon now we have,their information now - um SMS can work,plus you're giving Shopify more details,so remember - SMS takes the information,directly from Shopify so if Shopify,detects an abandoned cart so we'll - so,we need to be able to provide Shopify,with as much information as possible so,always always always make this a,required field if you make this a,required field and like I showed you,just leave it and required in the,checkout settings then you're not going,to have a problem it's really that easy,so,then you can go back into - SMS and once,you're in - SMS you can go to order,verification campaigns edit your,campaign and now these sequences will,work because you have the phone number,right the phone number is automatically,there it's associated with the customers,account where is it well if you go to,orders and then you go to abandon,checkouts anytime Shopify detects an,abandoned order it's going to appear,over here so you can click on the order,number and then you'll notice that,there's a phone number now right so if,they have an email and they provide an,email up here at the top and they,provide the phone number here then you,have both both information you have two,of them if they provide their phone,number here then you don't have a,problem if they provide an email here,then they're forced to provide a phone,number so you're always getting that,phone number and that way Shopify has so,much information now and then now -,could use that information to always be,able to have the info it needs to be,able to work hopefully this makes sense,if you like this video please subscribe,on our YouTube channel to watch more,videos just like this and we'll see you,on the next one
