wize now has a massive application that,you need to understand fully in order to,get the full experience out of it so,today I'm going to walk through the,entire Weis application and show you how,to get the most out of it,hello Automator 'z thanks for tuning in,again I'm Brian from automate your life,and today I'm going to take the,frustration out of automation by showing,you what you can do with your wise,application now there is just a ton,inside of this application and things,continue to get more and more complex as,wise adds new devices to their setup so,today we're going to start on the basic,interface and then we will walk through,the different types of devices and we,will also walk through the very,important account screen the events,screen and I'm not really going to talk,about their shop but the other big,components that we're going to talk,about this screen which allows you to,add products or products group products,and the major feature which is the,ability to add and edit rules which is,true automation here in the wise app,let's start at the very top of the,application now there's a bell up here,that you can actually tap on and when,you see the line strike through it,that's actually turning off all of the,notifications in the application you,also have the three dots up here which,gets you in to the ability to sort,through things adding products grouping,products in the major rules section so,we will go through those different,components in a bit now up here is a,number of shortcuts and these all come,from that adding and editing rules,section whenever you choose to create a,shortcut you can create quick buttons to,basically press at the top of that to,manage all of your different settings so,I just turned off all the notifications,that's an easy shortcut to set up and,now I've turned them all back on for the,application as you scroll up and down,these are all your different products,and you can group products so you're,seeing the kitchen table lights here,there's actually three lights inside of,there and so the,Icahn slightly changes to represent the,fact that there are multiples inside of,this section you also have the ability,to turn on and off devices so you have,the wise bulb right there you saw I just,turned it on and it's going back to its,last state basically but we can talk,about managing that as well in a bit,same with the plugs you can turn those,on and off very quickly and same with,your cameras you can turn those on and,off very quickly from this interface you,also see your wise sense sensors down,here and the status of them now that's,the homepage you also have the events,page which allows you to number one see,your events from the day and you can see,I've been playing with my camera quite a,bit and setting up my red bowl there but,I can also filter and move between the,different day so here I've been moving,through the days and I can filter by,devices so if I just like one of these,cameras to show up or if I'd like to tag,the filter down by tag so just for,person detection I can do that hit apply,and it will filter the results for that,so you can also tap those quick buttons,you can see I don't have any person,based detection triggers during today up,in the top right you actually have three,dots again and this is always going to,bring up a little menu for you so down,here at the bottom you have the ability,to filter and delete events so you can,tap that delete events and then select,different things that you would like to,actually remove so down here at the,bottom hit that delete and now those,events are gone inside of the event,screen I also want to show you right,here as you have an event recording and,remember I have an SD card in here but,if this was a cloud recording you could,actually tap on the actual recording and,you can see it's just playing,automatically but I could actually share,this recording with anyone I'd like or I,can download that to my phone now I can,also expand and maximize this onto the,screen but I also have the full playback,interface that I can access and we'll,talk about in a bit I can go to the live,stream and I can turn on and,sound for the clip as it plays now if I,want to get rid of it I can also delete,that so there is quite a bit of,functionality in terms of what you can,review with the different events that,you have recorded here the discover tab,at the bottom is just basic news feed,here from wise you can see they've come,up with our eye health thermometer,that's supposed to help here during the,Cova 19 issue that we are having in all,of these countries and then there is the,shop and you can go into the shop you,can order their different items,obviously they're going to show you all,of the different components that they,have for sale but you do have to have,right now a US mailing address to,actually use that now the account,section is a whole nother screen that we,need to go into wise cam version 3. if you have any other wise ,products you are fairly familiar with the wise
app itself so you can actually skip ahead to ,the rest of the review for those of you who this
may be their first wise cam and or are interested ,in cam plus the subscription service that you can
get from wise i actually got a free trial of it ,when i purchased the wyzecam version 3 so i'll
utilize this as a way of talking about some of ,those features to start we're going to actually
click into the wyzecam version 3 because i want ,to talk about the actual interface for this
camera in particular first what we're looking ,at here is the live stream of my wyzecam version 3
outside because well it is plugged in but it is an ,outdoor camera if we take our phone and tilt
it it will go into a full landscape mode and ,we'll bring it back here starting up at the
top on this side you can see it says hd as ,well as a number account that lets you know how
well your video is going to look clicking on it ,you can select from hd sd and 360p which will be
your lowest so you can see i accidentally sent it ,set it to sd over here we have the fact that it is
a live stream we have our auto night vision or not ,night vision so right now if i tap on this it's
letting me know to try leaving night vision off ,and that's something we're going to touch on with
the version 3. so auto on for night vision off ,and here you can see thanks to that new sensor in
the wyzecam version 3 you can pretty much see at ,least in the far distance there where there's
extra light what's going on but since i want ,to see what's going on in my yard having the night
vision on helps out now there is a two-stage night ,vision ability for this camera we'll get into that
when we get to the options down here we have our ,mute button so right now i don't hear anything
but if i tap on this i can hear what's going on ,outside likewise if i click record i can record
directly to my phone what i see on the camera now ,in the case of this particular camera because i
got that free subscription service for a trial of ,two weeks i don't actually have an sd card in this
camera so that's going to be something new that i ,experienced so if you're recording you would tap
on that and it takes a little bit to actually ,process itself and then download to your phone
same thing if you try and download a motion ,capture from the cloud and bring that down so it
was an interesting experience they have made a ,nice change where you can now just tap and start
talking instead of having to press and hold i ,scared some deer that were my yard the other day
just by talking to them using that microphone you ,can snap a picture and it will take a picture
right there of what it sees coming over to more ,we have motion tagging so as i've been going
through the review you've seen me roll in some ,footage that green box that pops up around motion
that's what that is that is motion tagging albums ,if i select this here we
can see here are my videos ,here are my photos so these videos are things
that i was taking earlier today and you can see ,they're each marked with manual recording if
i select edit i can put a bullet i can put a ,check mark next to one and i can delete it if
i wanted to or i can share it so those options ,are down here share and delete you also
have the select all in that corner there ,and we're going to come back and go back to more
so that was albums time lapse you do need to have ,an sd card in the camera in order to do that i've
covered the time lapse i do like the time lapse ,the wyzecam outdoor had very nice time-lapse
features the older versions need to catch up ,but hopefully with software they will and that
includes the wyzecam version 3. here we have ,a siren so there is a built-in siren in the camera
and i might be able to do that and turn on outdoor ,so stop hopefully you heard that because i can
hear that through the microphone there and now my ,neighbors are probably wondering what is going on
they're gonna get used to having somebody testing ,stuff living by them hopefully last but not least
is turn off so if you wanted to turn your wisecam ,version 3 off you can do so from this menu we're
going to select cancel at the bottom we have view ,playback if you had a sd card installed that would
bring you to your recordings and the timeline ,of your recordings we are going to come back up
here to the top and click on this cog this cog ,is for the settings of your wyzecam version 3.

I was a very happy Nest cam user for a,really long time until I started running,into some issues that were making me,slowly go absolutely insane the first of,which was the fact that my Nest cam had,gotten really bad about letting people,walk right up to my mailbox right in my,detection Zone and not detecting them,resulting in me missing packages that,needed to be signed for when I was,sitting maybe 15 20 feet from where this,person was standing if they didn't knock,on the door or something loudly enough I,just didn't see them the nest camera,didn't think that was a person I would,miss that opportunity that was very very,annoying that was beginning to drive me,a little crazy but then sort of had a a,last straw kind of moment when my,backyard camera,after being in use for a few years uh,spontaneously died I then thought well,whatever I'll just go buy another one,and keep using my Nest cameras because,I've used them for so long now I go to,purchase the thing and I discover that,these new cameras require you to use the,new app and the new app if you use your,old cameras in it you can't actually,scrub back to see what's happened in the,past you have to switch to the nest app,so now I'm looking at a situation where,I gotta use the new app for the new,camera old app for the old camera so I,got frustrated and I pulled them all,down and I went on to Amazon and I,looked at some reviews and I saw the,wisecam V3 for 35 dollars it has the,ability to plug in an SD card and no,subscription required at that point so I,ordered a whole bunch of them and in,this video,I'm going to talk about what it is like,to use the wisecam V3 as someone who was,used to paying I think like 120 a year,for all of my Nest cameras to be able to,rewind and do all that good stuff what's,it like to use this camera with no,subscription there are plenty of reviews,around but nobody really talks about,what it's like to have no subscription,you can pay two dollars a month I think,is what it is to have the cloud storage,but what's it like to put an SD card in,there and use them like that first thing,first this is the wise cam B3 it is very,very simple it is a very lightweight,very small little camera I think it,looks okay it's definitely not a Crazy,Design you can see on the bottom here,there's a setup button it is dead simple,to set up you load up the app you click,on the setup button it beeps and the app,walks you through it and you're set up,in no time at all there's also a flap,here that if I could get open up maybe,you can see there is an SD card in there,because each camera can house an SD card,card and that's where things can be,stored to is great you have a normal USB,connector there that it comes with a six,foot cable and a brick plug it in there,you're off and running you can obviously,set it up on a table it is magnetic,though and this is something that I,really love if you want to mount this,thing anywhere you want to mount it this,is all you need attach this bit of 3M,Adhesive there peel off the other side,Stick it to whatever surface you want to,attach this thing to and then stick it,to it because it's magnetic installation,anywhere you want it is absolutely dead,simple takes no Drilling and it works,really well I've actually got one,outside attached to some siding and it's,fine it's held on really really well so,that is the camera itself but what about,the active actually using the thing and,how do you kind of get it working with,that SD card luckily it is extremely,simple to get working so once you get,all your cameras set up this is kind of,the look that you're going to get let's,just pick the front porch camera and if,you touch your settings Cog up there in,the corner and then you go to I believe,it's under advanced settings you'll see,record to micro SD card is already,ticked by default at that point you can,hit manage your micro SD card and you'll,see I have a 32 gig card and it reads it,is 29.72 but that's what it's going to,show a beautiful thing about this is you,don't have to manage your storage right,you don't have to go in and clear it,every so often whenever the old stuff,gets stored there's not enough room the,old stuff gets kicked off the new stuff,gets added on to the front so it's just,continuously sort of cycling what is on,the card for you on this size card I,think I'm getting like three or four,days worth of rewinding which is more,than enough for me if we go back here,we'll kind of look at some of the,settings here just so that you can kind,of understand what you have here so,detection settings you have the ability,to change what level what uh sort of,intensity of motion is going to be,required to pick up something a sound,and mode ocean have their own thing you,can have detection zones so I don't care,if anything happens out here we have,rabbits I don't care if a rabbit walks,in my yard what I do care about is if,someone approaches my mailbox or my or,my porch and one great thing about this,first is the nest cam,not

hello guys life hackster here lately,I've been receiving a lot of comments,and emails about setting up a Wi-Fi,security camera through glass or through,a window they want to set up a camera,inside a house overlooking the outside,my usual response is to recommend to,them to get an outdoor weather proof,camera there are a lot of reasons why,somebody wants a through the window,setup especially if you're renting an,apartment or a house that the landlord,stipulated in your contract that you're,not allowed to drill holes inside or,outside of the house so I have to think,of a way that will make it work first,off a camera through a glass it's not,really an ideal setup for several,reasons first motion detection may or,may not work and will depend on your,choice of camera if you have been,following my channel in videos I have,talked about the types of motion,detection that the security cameras have,there is the PIR or passive infrared,motion detection which detects heat,movement they are pretty accurate in,detecting motion but it has a limitation,it will not be able to detect heat if it,is behind glass so if you want a camera,overlooking a window setup then you,should avoid PIR cameras deena which,cameras uses PIR sensors all,battery-powered Wi-Fi security cameras,so are low argus blink and ring,battery-powered cameras will not work,another type of motion detection used in,security cameras is the pixel based,motion detection these cameras are wired,or plugged in because they are mostly on,not recording but they are monitoring,and when there's a change in the pixel,of the cameras view and depending on the,zones and the sensitivity that you said,you will trigger a recording and it will,alert you if this is the type of motion,detection your security camera have,then it may be used through a window or,glass so which Wi-Fi security cameras,have this the wired are plugged in once,like the nest Y scam and ye just to name,a few most indoor plugged in Wi-Fi,security cameras will have this type of,motion detection so we can uh narrowed,our choices and for this video I will,test out the Yi and the Y scam just,because they work pretty good and,affordable first thing that we can do is,to position the camera as close to the,window as possible,I found these stick on wall mounts for,small speakers at Amazon I will include,a link in the description down below,we'll be able to stick the shelf on the,window using the included command tape,and we can easily place and position our,cameras and they will be close to the,window and they're not going to be,noticeable from the inside when you,lower the blinds now the next issue that,we are going to have is the glare the,camera will usually reflect especially,if you have a double pane window even if,you get the camera lens pretty closed or,pressed on the glass the outside glass,of the double pane window will cause the,glare in daytime it is acceptable but,these cameras will usually have night,vision in which you will turn on their,infrared LEDs that are usually,surrounding the camera lens and these,infrared lights will reflect on the,glass causing a bad glare that the,footage will be unusable luckily the Yi,and the Y scam will have an option to,turn on or off their night vision except,for the Yi cameras before I explain I'll,talk about how night vision works for,its work two things need to happen first,the infrared LEDs need to turn on then,the camera needs to switch to black and,white mode or night vision mode now the,Yi does,this differently the setting it has on,the app is that you will only be able to,turn on or off the infrared LEDs the,transitioning from color to black and,white is still automatic and depends on,the ambient light outside which with the,Yi even with my porch light on it is,still in night vision or black and white,in black and white mode the camera is,sensitive to lights and the glare from,the background of the camera which in my,case the white lines are showing in the,footage you will also see how my,infrared LEDs from a real link and VR,camera blinds the Yi camera so we need a,camera that when the night vision is off,it will turn off the infrared LEDs and,also change to color recording this is,where the Y scam fits the bill by the,way this is the cheapest 1080p Wi-Fi,security camera also when we switch the,night vision to off the Y scam turns off,its infrared lights and also goes to,caller mode but this will cause another,dilemma if you turn off night vision,then the camera will not be able to see,at night and you will have a totally,dark footage so one way to make the,camera see and work at night is to leave,your outside lights if you have any,turned on at night then you will get,into a couple of issues you either need,to manually turn on and off the lights,or you need to think of a way to use a,timer which means changing the light,switch to a smart switch or timer switch,which is another expense or you can also,change the this is twit,uh boy i was a little upset with wise,this week,w-y-z-e i've been recommending their,cameras i thought they were the best,thing ever up your way christina in,seattle uh because they were selling,what would normally be very expensive,cameras and other electronic products,for remarkably low prices like 20 and 30,dollars,and they were good stuff they sell now,sprinkler controllers and noise,cancelling headphones and and earbuds,but it was,the wise cam number one,that was the amazing first product,turns out,it was hackable for three years,they did nothing about it they didn't,tell anybody they knew,that that hackers could remotely access,your camera,without much fanfare earlier this year,they discontinued it,without a full,explanation eventually they sent out a,a little note to wisecam version one,owner saying hey friends,it's a new year that comes with some,important updates,protecting you and your security always,top of mind for us to do that we'll need,you to update your wise app,update your camera firmware and oh by,the way if it's version one throw it out,no they don't say that but that's what,you should do,uh because there are no updates version,one now there is some debate over how,hackable,uh it was but uh hackable at all and if,it's known at the company and they don't,tell you,is,a big deal,i didn't know if it was depletable but,it they did say that it wasn't just,inter intercepting a stream but actually,reading the memory card yes uh and so,when you have the trigger set up where,it only triggers useful events that's,way more of a,a pot of interesting information rather,than just tapping into a random webcam,everything the camera is recorded,specifically things that trigger it,which are the things that people want to,see right nobody's people aren't combing,through hours and hours of footage to,try and find like oh now i've found the,like one minute in this footage that's,interesting they're getting the,highlight reel,now i first became aware of it uh with,sean hollister's article in the verge,i'm done with wise i'm throwing them all,out uh and he got a little bit wrong,wise reached out to tell him,that there was,some well basically security through,obscurity,in order for the attack to work,it would need an initial camera id which,is a non-predictable string that can,only be acquired if you're on the same,network as the device so hackers would,have to camp outside get into your wi-fi,for instance,and see it that way or perhaps get into,your house but it doesn't eliminate the,evil made attack and uh i don't care,vulnerable is vulnerable,and,i mean,how,i guess this is a an interesting,question how much christina how much,should we hold wise to the feast to the,fire for this,i mean i think that,if look if you make the decision that,you are not going to update a product,for whatever reason um that's one thing,and and i think that especially given,what type of product this is that that,that's,customers should probably look at and be,like okay well i'm never going to buy,anything from you again if this is how,you do it but the fact that like it,seems like they waited so long three,years,three years before even alerting people,that to me like when you know,that's the unacceptable part if you,don't want if you don't have the money,or the time the resources or the,engineering talent or whatever the case,may be to update your old product fine,that's we can critique that but but,whatever but but to not even bother to,let people know hey this security device,which you are selling as a security,device that is capturing pretty,sensitive information has,vulnerabilities where people could take,over it and could do things to it and,you're not telling anyone,that's not that that's not that's not,acceptable at all i think we should,definitely hold their feet to the fire,there's also questions about bitdefender,because they learned about this,vulnerability,in march of 2019,notified wise,normally with the security company,there's a responsible disclosure,uh agreement where you wait a certain,amount of time usually three months and,if the company doesn't fix it,you then disclose it because,it's only a matter of time before,hackers discovered if bitdefender could,have discovered it for some reason,bitdefender decided not to do that um,and so i'm i'm not bit defender's pr,director told the verge,our findings were so serious,our decision regardless of our usually,90-day with grace period extension's,policy was that publishing this report,without wise's acknowledgement and,mitigation was going to expose,potentially millions of customers with,unknown implications,and since the vendor didn't have,as far as we knew a security process,we just delayed publishing,and you know that's one of the arguments,for never disclosing but at the same,time it's if you could find a bit,defender couldn't bad guys yeah yeah i,think it's also interesting that like as,they point out wise didn't seem to have,a security framework in place

as a way to prove to the,system that we are who we say we are the,concept is solid the lowest form of 2fa,is the email confirmation of this otp or,one-time password this is just a,fraction better than having none of this,at all as the likelihood of somebody,having access to your email is pretty,high if they bought your username and,password now the otp idea is solid but,the execution with email is just,terrible so the next level app is via,text message or sms unlike email that,can be accessed from anywhere in the,world to access somebody's text messages,you need to either have their phone or,be able to clone it you know that you,can call your cellular provider and,after answering a bunch of security,questions basically they'll activate,your new sim card well scammers and,hackers do the same thing they call the,cellular provider pretend to be you and,remember they bought a list of your,information so they can answer all those,basic security questions and besides,they typically have somebody on the,inside that does that swim swap for them,anyway and of course once they do that,they have access to your otp text,messages now i want to be clear this,method is a much better than an email,otp and certainly a million times better,than having no two-factor authentication,but otp via sms isn't ideal for two,reasons besides the whole cloning thing,firstly and this actually happened to me,do you have a voicemail password most,people don't and as you know you can,call to retrieve your voicemail from any,phone not just your cell phone so what,these guys do they tell the system hey,don't send me the otp via text messages,rather call me they do it at three in,the morning you're sleeping that phone,call goes to voicemail they log in you,don't have a password and they retrieve,your voicemail now the second reason why,i don't like otp via sms is because i,have to give these platforms my cell,phone number why,they know that your cell phone is gold,because most of us don't change our,phone numbers that often so now they,have another data point to track us,around the web besides the ip address,which they know that you can mask anyway,with a vpn so let's look at what i call,the bare minimum that everybody should,have and that is an authenticator app an,authenticator app essentially uses,something called a time-based one-time,password or totp when you fire up the,app you will see a six digit number that,is automatically generated and,constantly changing every 30 seconds,this is the code that you will need to,provide once you log into the website,after your username and password the,huge plus of this method there is no sum,to clone and it is tied into your device,the big minus is that if you lose your,phone and you're locked out of your,account you are your backup codes,now there is some thinking that the,authenticator apps made by companies,like google and microsoft are there just,to spy on you and keep track of your,activities so if you don't like that,well you can use a third-party developer,like authy and speaking of google,authenticator i'm so confused as to why,there isn't a pin or a fingerprint,requirement to access the app that's on,the phone that seems crazy now if you,really want to have what is probably the,best security method available to public,today then you need a physical key,something like the google titan or the,yubiko key these are physical keys that,are either inserted into the usb slot on,your computer or your phone or are nfc,enabled or are bluetooth enabled when,you log into an account that you have,set up to use your key as your 2fa,method you will need to either touch the,key or tap it on your phone or link it,to bluetooth this basically shows the,system that you are who you are and you,have the physical key with you i will,mention that nothing is foolproof there,has been some research that shows that,these keys can actually be cloned,however if you're somebody of that,caliber who's somebody's the,high-profile individual you probably,need to have a security specialist do an,assessment of your risk most of us just,want to keep the creepy guys out of our,systems cons of this method is that
